Discussion:
Vista Synth/Wave Balance Control?

In Vista, volume controls have all been
virtualized. It appears that there is only a
single master volume control for each app, hence
there is no way for users to control the balance
between MIDI synthesized sound and Wave output for
an app that produces both. (At least, when the
synth is the default soft-synth... haven't tested
with other synths yet.)

But even though Vista has eliminated the user
controls, I'm wondering if there is some software
method an app can use to provide this
functionality for itself. The Wave output can
certainly be scaled down numerically (ugly, but
possible), but how to control the synth?

As a work-around, could the app somehow trick the
OS into treating the synth and Wave output as
separate apps, each with its own volume control?
Any ideas on how to best do this?

Thanks, and best regards,
